I like the simplicity of this little song. It bothers me that people can work hard, and lose everything.
I wrote this song about Tom Horn (duh!). He was really the last of his kind. It’s a true story.
This is sort of our family story–a little. My mother’s family came to America from Spain hundreds of years ago. They weren’t poor. however. But there’s nothing poetic writing about rich people, so I changed it. It’s good to remember that all of the Southwest once belonged to México, and before that, to the Indians.
I recorded this right down by the river using a little portable 4 track recorder. I laid down the mandolin track first, then added the guitar. I kind of like this one.
Ren and Big Daddy-Obsidian Bridges
This song was composed by my great friend, Ren. I just love that guy. Anyway, he was kind enough to send me the file, and I over dubbed the guitar parts onto it. I liked it before, but I really like it now. I strongly suggest you buy his CD, “Obsidian Bridges”. I know you can find it on his music site at Reverb. Go to my Reverb page and then click on Ren’s page from my friend list. He is a great talent.
I wrote this song for my wife. Ever since she heard we were going to be visiting the great state of Maine, she’s been doing her lobster dance. I decided she needed music for it. So here it is. Lobster. Yum city.
This is a true story. I wrote this song after reading an article in the New York Times about a young man by the name of Luis Ramirez. A group of young high school football heroes ran into him after leaving a party. They yelled a few racial slurs at him and Luis responded, so they beat him. One young man kicked him in the head and killed him. They were acquitted of murder, but found guilty of assault and ordered to take anger management classes.
Here’s the first music of the new year. I made this little ditty up on the balcony the morning of January 1st. I went right downstairs and recorded it. Let’s hope for a good 2010.
I hate losing people. Don’t you? I wish we didn’t have to. It hurts like hell and it never seems to get any easier.
